Zarautz (by Alex and Michelle)

We had a really great time playing at this beach. The beach is over a mile long and there were thousands of people there, but it didn't eveb seem crowded. It is my favorite so far because it is a surfing beach. Some waves are at least 7 feet tall and it is great to body-surf. You can float on top of the waves. Mom and I spent hours inhaling sea water and body surfing. Sometimes the waves are big enough that if you're not watching they'll knock you down. Once I went head over heels. Don't worry, though, it's not dangerous, just fun.

P.S. (by Michelle) Thank you Chris for recommending this beach. It was GREAT. We also body surfed at the Gros beach next to the Kursaal in Donostia but it got a little rough at times with waves sort of throwing bodies on the beach sometimes. Zarautz wins for the best body-surf and ties with Laida Beach for being the most family friendly. (Laga beach wins for most beautiful though they were all beautiful.) We didn't take the camera on the Zarautz outing so we have no pictures. Instead here are the kids overlooking Laida Beach (Simon and Eva's favorite beach) the Island of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe that we hiked to (can you see the tiny family in the left bottom corner?) and a happy Eva playing on the beach. My Dad says (and I agree) that the beach is the best and worst place to take a camera. (You do say that don't you, Dad?) Best: beautiful pictures Worst:Sand and water
