My 11th Birthday (by Alex)

For my 11th birthday I wanted to go the Museo de Aire (aircraft museum) in Madrid. We rode the train to the neighborhood and found some people at a bus stop and asked them where the air museum was and they said it was one direction but they weren't sure. We walked until we came to a gas station, and a guy said it was the other direction but we could catch a bus. Then the bus drove right by us and a girl at the bus stop spoke English and she said we could walk there. So we went back to the train station and someone came out of the station to tell us where it was. So we started walking along the side of a highway for what took forever (see picture) until we came to a bridge that said Military Zone (except in Spanish) so we didn't cross that bridge and we walked for another mile until we finally saw a restaurant and we asked someone there. He told us that it was across that bridge so we went back, found the air museum and for one hour stayed there until it closed. We were sooo tired, but there were lots of cool planes. For my birthday I got a gameboy and a hand grenade. It was a good birthday.

(PS by Michelle - Sometimes when we go on outings without David, the fact that my Spanish isn't very good makes them more . . . well, memorable)

The Mom's explanation: Simon gave Alex a hand grenade from Toledo. (a souvenir of sorts) It was originally a very heavy cigarette lighter, but the shop owner kindly took the lighter part out of it and put it back together for Simon.

We'll see how we do getting through customs.
