The Last Day that . . . (by Michelle)

Our last day in Spain.
We flew into Madrid on an early flight from Paris and can't help noticing that it is the last of everything:

  • The last time to be in the Atocha train station (last train, last metro)
  • The last time to see everyone out walking in the evening (dar un paseo) (even now when its the cold and dark!)
  • The last time to see a castle
  • The last of lots of tile roofs and all of the fun Spanish architecture
  • The last time to walk past the kind barber on the corner
  • The last time to purchase my daily barras de pan (baguettes) from the grocery store (this realization was almost enough to make me cry)
  • The last time to share Spanish besos y brazos with our dear friends Isabel y Samuel (this one, I did cry)
We go on and on. Though we are excited to go home, and some "last time" realizations make it easier (the last time to spend the afternoon rotating clothes laid out to dry on radiators around the apartment), still it is hard to leave and hard not to feel sad.(OK, Maybe having 2 photos of bread is excessive, but when I look at these pictures I can hear the crunch that means its going to be good. In Ratatouille, they were right -- the way you know good bread is by the sound.)
